Lucien Gaulard, a french engineer, was the inventor of the electrical transformer. He worked with J.D. Gibbs, a british engineer, and lighted the London underground stations.

Chapters 1 and 2 of this review have tackled the very first outset of magnetic recording. This chapter 3 deals with its development and reseach works devoted to the realization of convenient devices, since the Poulsen's telegraphon did not reach the power and sound quality available with a phonograph.
